Countries to Avoid Traveling for 2020 and Why

Not all the countries in the world have the same level of safety for people. Whenever you plan on a trip, you obviously do some research about your destinations regarding the travel routes, places to visit, etc. Do you also research on the safety situation of your destination?

It is very important to know beforehand about any ongoing or upcoming crisis, or else you will get stuck in a risky situation instead of enjoying the beautiful places of the country. You can categorize the travel risks into two types: 1. Human, 2. Natural. Human risks will include political issues, terrorist threats, civil unrest, increased crimes, etc. The Natural risks will have an outbreak of diseases including endemic and new ones, any natural calamity like the Earthquake, Cyclone, etc.

Africa

It has some amazing wildlife and jungle safaris to experience, but it houses most of the poorest countries in the world. Naturally, if you find any reasons not to travel here, they will mostly include political and a disease outbreak.

  • Research extensively if you plan to travel to Egypt, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Somalia, etc. or better still, avoid them altogether. There could be health risks as well as political unrest in 2020.

  • In terms of health, risky countries are Niger, Libya, Central African Republic, Eritrea, and Guinea.

  • Cape Town could be one of the safe cities for tourists, but it is on the way to becoming one of the dangerous cities with an increasing rate of killings, thefts, gang violence, and drug usage becoming common. South Africa, in general, is also risky for road travel because of the high no of accidents.

Asia

Any potential threats on this continent are mostly concentrated on the western side and some far east. Most of the risk factors are related to political or terrorism threat. Countries in that category include Pakistan, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Iran, and Iraq.

  • The Korean peninsula is undergoing political and civil tensions, do extensive research before planning to visit this region. North Korea especially has health risks.

  • Take updated knowledge and information before thinking to visit countries like Syria, Ukraine, Afghanistan, and Yemen. Health Risks are active and could increase in 2020.

Americas

  • The North American countries of the USA and Canada are relatively safe for travel, but Central America and some of the South American countries may suffer some political issues.

  • Watch out for countries like Bolivia, Ecuador, Mexico, Honduras, Peru, Venezuela and Colombia. Political issues have been occurring lately and are expected to occur in 2020 too.

When it comes to Europe, most of the countries are safe to travel, at least as of now. Still, you should get all the updated news of happenings there, esp. Northern Spain for its Catalonia unrest. Even the countries of Oceania – Australia and New Zealand are relatively safe for travel. So what to tick-off from your bucket list, what to add in your travel itinerary, all should be decided before extensive research of your wish list.
